At The Advent, academics begin at pre-kindergarten.
Children in both Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten have classroom instruction consisting of Reading, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Penmanship, Neuro-Net training, Art, Keyboarding, Music, and French. Each day also has specific time set aside for snack, recess or Physical Education. Kindergartners also have various activities in the afternoon including swimming lessons at the YMCA and special cultural/international activities.
Field trips and special events are an integral part of the Advent curriculum. Since the school is located in the historic district and within three blocks of the Children's Theatre, the Birmingham Museum of Art, McWane Science Center, the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, the main branch of the Birmingham Public Library, and the Birmingham Civic Center, it is a simple matter for students to participate in a number of activities. In addition, several trips outside Birmingham are planned with bus and train transportation provided.
