BROADCAST CLUB - WAES
These students work together to write, produce, and edit scripts for a weekly broadcast. Advent students watch the Broadcast every Friday.
Chess Club is an informal opportunity to learn (and play) chess and is open to students in 4K-8th grade. Students meet between 7:15 and 7:45 in the Library on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
The Chess Team is open to students in grades 2 through 8 who play chess seriously and intend to play in chess tournaments. It meets Monday afternoons from 3:05 to 4:30 for chess lessons and team play. A parent must accompany their student to each tournament. Memberships in the U.S. Chess Federation and Alabama Chess Federation are required, and students must pay their own entrance fees to each tournament. The Upper-School French Club welcomes 5th-8th graders. The club meets on the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 3:15 to 4:15. Auditions to perform in skits and monologues at the Alabama Federation of French Clubs' Convention in Tuscaloosa is open to 6th-8th grade club members.
Those in 5th through 8th Grades who demonstrate an exceptional ability in math are invited to participate on this team. The criteria are teacher recommendation, end-of-year math grade, and score on the math section of the achievement test.
BIBLE STUDY CLUB
This club is open to any student in grades 5-8 who wishes to learn more about the Bible and its messages. This club is led by the school's chaplain, Palmer Kennedy, Jr. It meets on Monday mornings from 7-8 in the Upper School Library.
