|Traditions abound at the Advent! Many have an impact on the entire school. Others are associated with a single grade. Taken as a whole, they are a definite part of what makes the Advent experience so unique.|
LESSONS & CAROLS
The annual extravaganza of Lessons & Carols is one of the most impactful events at Advent for students, parents, and grandparents. This service originated at King's College, Cambridge University, England, and is performed annually during the Christmas season by all of our students. The service combines Scriptures of the ancient prophecies concerning the Christ, and Scriptures concerning His Life among men. Christmas carols are sung by the different grades and are interspersed between the readings. DVD's of the service may be ordered here.
The weekly Chapel gathering is a great respite for students to focus on things other than academics. The entire school, students and faculty, assembles in the church's sanctuary to listen to the Ensemble sing, to hear a reading by a student, to listen to a homily by the Chaplain, and to applaud students who have birthdays and those that have won awards. Parents are encouraged to attend and sit with their child. Chapel is every Wednesday at 8:15 (unless noted).
To help celebrate the completion of a successful school year, MAYFEST is a large fair located off campus that includes rides, music, games, food, and tee shirts than list every Advent student. Find out more on the MayFest page.
All Advent students in grades 3 through 8 present their artwork in the Art Fair. The winners are determined by an independent jury.
