In pre-kindergarten at Advent, we are preparing your child for tomorrow and years to come. We focus on the child as a whole: socially, emotionally, and academically. Advent believes in giving children the opportunity to express themselves through play, classroom discussions and the many opportunities they have in art and music. Within the classroom, pre-kindergarten students will use numerous resources to enhance their learning. Handwriting without Tears is a program we use to teach handwriting while helping with fine motor skills. Our math program focuses on numerous skills: sorting, patterns, numbers, the calendar, time, measurement, money, addition and subtraction, shapes and problem solving. In addition, we teach science and social studies through our weekly readers, “Let’s Find Out.” We approach reading on an individual basis. The pre-kindergarten teachers recognize every child learns differently and at a different pace.
Your child will not only have learning experiences in the classroom, but also through field trips. We attend Children’s Theatre several times throughout the year, visit an area fire station, the pumpkin patch, and McWane Center. There are also special field trips at Halloween, Christmas, and Easter.
Advent believes in giving our students the opportunities to learn and express themselves through the arts. Pre-Kindergarten students visit the Explorium every week to check out books, have French and Music twice a week, take Keyboarding without Tears, and have Art class once a week. We also attend chapel every week.
At Advent, it is our goal to help every child succeed! As we say, “Start Here…Go Anywhere!”
