COVID-19: School and Health Updates

Thursday, July 29, 2021

Advent Parents,

We are so excited to welcome faculty, staff, students, and parents back on campus in just a few weeks! ADVENTure Camp and summer projects have kept us busy at school, but we are eager to be back together as an entire school community soon.

Following the guidance and recommendation of the CDC, the American Academy of Pediatrics, our COVID Response Team, and other resources, Advent Episcopal School will require masks for all individuals (vaccinated and unvaccinated) while on campus, at least for the time being. While we are more than disappointed to be in this situation, we will continue to do what is needed to keep our community and students safe.

As the pandemic persists and we move into the new school year, we come back to our guiding principles:
  • We seek to safeguard the health and wellbeing of our entire community, recognizing that growth and learning depend upon those pillars being in place.
  • We look to follow public health guidance based on the best available science and our expert panel.
  • We approach this situation with an abundance of caution but also adapt to the changing situation regularly.
  • We utilize the best prevention strategies wherever possible, which includes a variety of safety procedures and encouragement of vaccination.
  • We seek to build and protect our community in everything we do.

Building on our experience from last year and balancing the evolving nature of the pandemic, we are excited to bring back more of the Advent you’ve come to love: chapel, field trips, family and community events, a return to the art room, music room, and French classrooms. We are thankful that masks will allow us to benefit from the many integral facets of the Advent experience.

For complete details of our current 2021-2022 COVID Guidelines, please click here. We are fortunate to be a small, independent school which affords us the ability to adapt quickly as the situation changes. As such, we will update these guidelines, as needed, throughout the year.

I know many of you share my frustration that we find ourselves here again. And while the road ahead does not look quite the way I (or anyone) had hoped for at the start of this new school year, I am grateful for a fantastic group of faculty and staff, a curious student body, and the opportunity to reconnect as a community. Thank you for your trust, support, and patience over the past year, this summer, and through the year ahead as we wrestle with these essential health questions and considerations.

I look forward to seeing many of you in the coming weeks as we begin the 2021-2022 school year—together.

Sincerely,

Claire Cassady Vaughn '03
Interim Head of School

Advent School Prayer
Almighty God, our heavenly Father,
watch over, we pray Thee, the Advent Episcopal School.
Bless all who teach and all who learn,
and grant that we may ever look unto Thee,
who art the fountain of all wisdom.
Lead us in the search for truth and beauty;
grant us grace to choose the good and reject the evil;
and let Thy love show forth in our lives,
we ask through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Amen.
