Before the start of school, the Rev. Jayne Pool, Advent's Upper School religion teacher for the last thirteen years, notified the school that she felt called to spend additional time focusing on her church home, St. Mark's Episcopal School, where Jayne serves as Rector. While Jayne has loved serving as our religion teacher, she felt it was best not to return to teach at Advent this year.
Jayne has done a remarkable job serving both Advent Episcopal School and St. Mark's. Still, appreciating the additional responsibilities with her Church and the entanglements of trying to keep two different constituencies healthy during this time of COVID, Jayne decided she needed to serve full time shepherding her Church. We appreciate and support her decision. Jayne will be missed, but she has promised not to be a stranger.
Advent will soon be announcing a search for our religion teacher. In the meantime, and maybe for the year, we are pleased and thrilled to announce Tucker Fleming as our interim Upper School religion teacher. He is already familiar with many of our families through his role with the youth at the Cathedral Church of the Advent. Please join me in welcoming Tucker to Advent!
We are pleased to share the following message from Tucker:
"Hi Everyone! My name is Tucker Fleming, and I’m so excited to be teaching AES’s religion classes as an interim instructor during this fall term! I currently serve as the Junior High Youth Director at the Church of the Advent (mere steps away!). I have also led the Advent Bible Club for three years, so I’m familiar with the ethos of learning that AES is so well known for. The move back to the classroom is one I’m incredibly excited about.
After finishing my undergraduate program at Mississippi State and before starting divinity school at Samford, I spent a year working with City Year, an AmeriCorps program, at Sacramento Charter High School in Sacramento, California. Though Advent is different in many ways, I’m just as excited as I was five years ago about a similar opportunity to both teach and learn from our students here. I’m looking forward to a great fall!"
