School Life

Traditions

Traditions abound at the Advent! Many have an impact on the entire school. Others are associated with a single grade. Taken as a whole, they are a definite part of what makes the Advent experience so unique.

  • Lessons & Carols

The Festival of Lessons & Carols is one of the most impactful events at Advent for students, parents, and grandparents. This service originated at King's College, Cambridge University, England, and is performed annually during the Christmas season by all of our students. The service combines Scriptures of the ancient prophecies concerning the Christ, and Scriptures concerning His Life among men. Christmas carols are sung by the different grades and are interspersed between the readings. DVD's of the service may be ordered here.

  • Chapel

The weekly Chapel gathering is a great respite for students to focus on things other than academics. The entire school, students and faculty, assembles in the church's sanctuary to listen to the Ensemble sing, to hear a reading by a student, to listen to a homily by the Chaplain, and to applaud students who have birthdays and those that have won awards. Parents are encouraged to attend and sit with their child. Chapel is every Wednesday at 8:15 (unless noted).

  • Advent Auction

The Advent Auction is the school's largest fundraising effort. This biennial event is sponsored by the APA and features a grand evening with an outstanding meal along with a silent auction as well as the headliner live auction. The next Auction will be held in 2019.

  • Celebrate the Arts Day

Advent students are always creating art as well as performing in plays and performing music while at school. Many of our students also embrace the arts off-campus. To share with their parents, grandparents, and friends these wondrous creations, Celebrate The Arts Day is a whole day devoted to celebrating what our students accomplish. It culminates with the entire Middle and Upper Schools walking to the Museum of Art to experience special programs.
  • MayFest

To help celebrate the completion of a successful school year, MayFest is a large fair located off campus that includes rides, music, games, food, and tee shirts than list every Advent student.
  • Monday Bell

Symbolic of the fresh start to the new week, every Monday morning as students unload from carpool, all (Pre-K through 8th Grade) ring the bell.
