Join us all summer long for engaging and enriching week-long sessions! Each week offers a unique experience led by a high quality local instructor - even some of your favorite Advent teachers! Sessions are offered in a half day format but students are welcome to sign up for both the morning and afternoon session for a full day. Learn about cultures across the globe in Around the World in 1200 minutes; get your hands messy and be creative with clay in Ceramics; go deep and learn new skills with Dive Camp - whatever your interests and passions, there is a Summer Solstice session to inspire and challenge you!

Extended Care: Morning Care $25/week and/or Afternoon Care $65/week

WEEK 1: JUNE 11 - 15
Photography (Morning)
Join local Birmingham photographer Kimberly A. Wilson on a photo safari each day during this exciting session!  With Downtown Birmingham as your classroom you'll discover new ways of seeing architecture, cityscape, nature, and the wonderful people who inhabit the Magic City! Cameras will not be provided. Students need to bring their own digital camera. (Point and shoot or DSLR cameras only. Please no smartphones or tablets.) Fun. Educational. Unforgettable.  
 
Chess (Afternoon)
Want to know the difference between a pawn and rook? Feel like you’ve got what it takes   
to conquer the black and white squares of the chess board? Then you’ll enjoy spending the afternoon with the Knights School Chess program! You’ll learn strategic critical thinking skills and have a great time along the way! Check...and mate!

WEEK 2: JUNE 18 - 22
Teen Scuba Camp FULL DAY (7:30 - 5:30) $615
(Ages 13-17, Offsite, 12 spaces only)
Take advantage of this exclusive opportunity with Birmingham's only Teen Scuba Camp offered by Family Dive Club! Scuba Camp is a premier personal growth and leadership opportunity for teens. Through applied skills, Scuba Diving is used to teach young people important life lessons such as leadership, organization, focus, awareness, safety, communication, decision making, and responsibility. In a safe, supportive environment, campers not only learn to dive safely, but they also learn to engage with others and the world around them. These valuable skills help prepare young people to thrive in a changing world.

Throughout the week, campers will have the opportunity to meet all the requirements for their PADI Open Water or Jr. Open Water Certification. All Scuba activities are taught by a highly qualified and experienced PADI Scuba Instructor at a ratio no larger than 1:6. No prior Scuba experience is necessary, however, campers need to have adequate swimming skills and need to be in good physical health. Camp fee includes daily transportation to and from camp starting at Advent, lunch each day, all teaching materials, daily entrance into Blue Water Scuba Park, use of Scuba equipment, and PADI certification, if all requirements are met. Not included are mask, snorkel, and fins. Boy Scout Scuba Merit Badges can be earned and there are SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR BOY SCOUTS. Scholarship application deadline is April 15. 

Art (Morning)
City Sketching! Explore Downtown Birmingham in pencil, pen, and water color. You will learn about perspective drawing and cityscapes with Advent’s own Jennifer Gibson.
 
Drumming (Afternoon)
Do you constantly hear rhythm in your head? Are you the one always offering a ‘drum
roll’ for even the smallest announcement? Then this session is for you! Offered by
Altamont’s Landon Rogan you’ll enjoy an exciting week of instruction in drumming and rhythm - you are sure to come away from this session tapping your toes, clapping your hands and feeling the beat!

WEEK 3: JUNE 25 - 29
Kids Ocean Camp FULL DAY (8 - 4) $415 
(ages 8 - 11, Offsite, 20 spaces only)
Take advantage of this exclusive opportunity with Birmingham's only Kid’s Scuba Camp offered by Family Dive Club! This adventurous, safe, action packed, week-long camp for ages 8-11 is a fun mix of daily ocean-related STEM Science experiments, crafts, games, songs, and activities. Students will have opportunities to swim and snorkel daily and to try out Scuba Diving. All Scuba activities take place in a shallow, controlled setting with a highly qualified and experienced PADI Scuba Instructor at a ratio no larger than 1:2. Your campers will be safe, have fun and make new friends. Their new learning will translate into increased awareness, caring and hope for our oceans and our environment. Camp fee includes mask, snorkel, and fins for campers to keep, camp T-shirt, all camp activities, lunch each day, and transportation to and from Blue Water Dive Park starting from Advent.   
 
Yoga (Morning)
Strengthen and stretch in this week’s yoga session. You’ll learn basic yoga poses and
sequences with local Birmingham instructor Lisa Yeager.
 
Ceramics (Afternoon)
You might think that you are past the days of mud pies but in this week’s ceramics
session you’ll learn that great things can come from MUD! Just ask Birmingham potter
Michelle Glaze! This week you’ll explore hand building and wheel throwing techniques and create your own ceramic creations! Artworks will be glaze fired and available for pick up a few weeks following the camp session.

WEEK 4: JULY 9 - 13
Creative Confections (Morning)
Do you have a legendary sweet tooth? Looking for a new creative outlet? Come explore the sweet life with Advent’s Jennifer Drew. Baking and decorating are just a few of the reasons this session will be scrumptiously sweet! Disclaimer your family might demand that you share EVERYTHING you learn through this session.

Art (Afternoon)
Join in this art session for a week of re-creations! Add a new story to an old painting. Transform found objects into a new creation. Explore many ways of up-cycling and re-creating with Advent's Jennifer Gibson in this fun and creative art session. 

WEEK 5: JULY 16 - 20
Around the World in 1,200 minutes (Morning)
“Travel” around the globe. Explore the culture, language, and food of different continents during this globe-trotting week.

Strategy Game Camp (Afternoon)
Join Advent’s Kyle DeBoer to strengthen your critical thinking and problem solving skills through the fun of strategy games! Playing games encourages healthy competition and collaboration while building self-confidence. You’ll have a blast this week and explore games in a whole new way!

Join us in this second session of photography and sharpen your ability to capture the
world around you through the lens of a camera! Downtown Birmingham will be the source of your inspiration and you’ll learn to see your everyday surroundings with new eyes as under the instruction of Birmingham photographer Kimberly Wilson. There will be lots of fresh challenges and new information even if you attend the first session!

Chess (Afternoon)
Get check’d in this week’s session as The Knights School returns to broaden your
understanding and skills on the chess battlefield!
