Clubs and Organizations

Many of the most formative moments in a child’s education happen outside of class time. We provide a variety of clubs and organizations to help your child explore his or her unique interests, hone God-given talents, and develop valuable, lifelong skills.

Acolytes

Students in grades 6-8 can serve as a uniformed acolyte during the weekly Chapel service. They walk in procession with the Choral Ensemble carrying flags, banners, crosses, and altar candles.

Choral Ensemble

Rising 4th through 8th grade students can audition to become ensemble members. The group performs at school and civic functions throughout the year and weekly at the school's Chapel service.

Cross & Shield

This uniformed corps of students selected from grades 6-8 serve as school representatives in various capacities. They play a vital role in the smooth operation of school events while forging deep friendships. Jobs include: guides, ushers, hosts, escorts, and more at school functions during the year.

French Club

The French Club welcomes 5th through 8th graders to practice and polish their French and learn about French culture. Auditions to perform in skits and monologues at the Alabama Federation of French Clubs Convention in Tuscaloosa are open to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade club members.

National Junior Honor Society

The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) demonstrates Advent's commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. Students who meet the GPA requirement are invited to apply in the spring of their 6th grade year. A faculty and staff committee reviews applications before selecting new members each year. NJHS meets weekly during a Flex period to plan and implement a community-wide service project for the year.

Recorder Ensemble

Building on their musical recorder skills from music class, the Recorder Ensemble is an audition-based group composed of 7th and 8th grade students. The Ensemble traditionally opens our annual Lessons & Carols service each year.

Scholar’s Bowl

Students in grades 6-8 may participate in Scholars’ Bowl, an academic challenge designed to challenge and recognize academically gifted students. Participants study and prepare to compete with other schools by answering questions from the areas of mathematics, science, language arts, social studies, current events, and fine arts.

Student Council

The Student Council is an outstanding leadership development opportunity for elected representatives from grades 6-8. The Student Council sponsors holiday service activities, plans the Spring Dance and A-Day, and develops other activities that promote student leadership. The Student Council also presents the annual Graduating Student Leader Award.
